Are you wondering about setting boundaries with your adult children? Parenting your adult child sounds like an oxymoron. The two really shouldn't go together,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but they often do. There is an epidemic of children eighteen years and older (even much older) that still require involvement from their parents in their lives and want support in the form of a place to live, money, training,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and emotional energy. This requires a plan and an understanding of the ways adult children should be parented. Here are five ways God wants you to parent your adult child:

1. Everything you do needs to be with the goal of increasing independence rather than fostering dependence. It isn't easy for most eighteen year olds to move out on their own and be self-supporting as well as pay for educational or vocational training. Parental support can be a good thing, as long as it is working toward independence rather than fostering dependence. If you give any help to your son or daughter that is making it easier for them to start a career, it is positive and good. This is God's plan for you to raise children who become independent and healthy adults who make wise choices (Proverbs 22:6).

Your child needs to follow the house rules,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].Your life should not be disrupted by your child,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]; your child needs to adapt to you. Don't be afraid to impose a curfew that allows you to go to bed rather than wait up for him/her to come home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Impose rules that keep you from worrying and from being annoyed. You don't have to allow TV watching or activity in the house that would prevent you from sleeping or enjoying your life as you want to. You can ask that your child be respectful of your rules when visiting and/or living there and not doing anything in your home that is unacceptable to you. Proverbs 25:17 says we should be careful what we do in someone else's house or they will grow to hate us.
5. Reward success and don't reward laziness. Your child needs to experience the positive benefits of succeeding. Good grades in college mean you pay for more college classes. A responsible child who is working toward a degree, a career, and an independent life by being involved in some sort of educational or vocational training and is working hard might deserve for you to give some extra cash to lighten the load. This child should get more support from you than the child that is doing almost nothing. Unfortunately,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it typically works the opposite with parents giving more to the child who is lazy. God doesn't honor laziness and even goes as far as to say that someone who doesn't work shouldn't eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10).

This way your parenting shifts from punishment and deciding to impose consequences to letting your child experience the results of his/her own decisions. You wouldn't pay for traffic tickets or accidents. You wouldn't pay late fees. You wouldn't pay for lost items. You wouldn't pay for dropped college classes. If you set boundaries with your adult children these five ways that God wants you to parent, then you will be increasing the likelihood that you will soon be out of a job. Ultimately, that is God's plan for you and your adult son or daughter.

Answer this question and you’ll understand what it is you need to shift in order to facilitate the learning. I guarantee that while doing what’s required in order to make the shift, you’ll notice that Harry will either change or go away! It’s fascinating to observe what changes within our environment once we get our part in maintaining it as it has been.

Too often wisdom and common sense do not enter into the equation when it comes to how a business or family is operating. Entangled and embroiled in the cauldron of complexity of our work environment, its challenging to see all of this without a thinking partner or coach who can hold the bigger picture and who also holds you accountable for your participation in the unfolding of your life within this bigger picture. No coach or thinking partner? That’s okay. Just be willing to be truthful in answering the questions above. This alone will create a positive shift for you; and the Harry’s of the world will go POOF!
If you go above Harry’s head to his boss, Glenda, you might be not only aggravate Harry but also be making it clear to Glenda that she may have made a choice that is creating negative consequences far beyond any expectations. She’s already regretting her choice and knows there’s nothing she can do.
The questions funnel down to just one:
Part of you, perhaps wants to sabotage Harry’s efforts and do whatever you can to expose him for the inadequate, incompetent individual that you see him to be; however,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that goes against your integrity,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and you may end up looking bad and feeling worse in the end.
The trick is to notice this pattern of operating. When you’re feeling smarter than – what’s the quality of the experience? Are you feeling righteous and arrogant, contemptuous and condescending? 3) Mail Monday. Make Monday your day to go through mail that has piled up (as it so easily does) then pay the bills immediately so they are out of your mind. I know I was shocked at just how much laundry an extra little being could produce. Then I had my second child and couldn’t believe how the laundry quadrupled! As with everything I do, I took a look at the situation and found a better, more simple, (and of course, stress- free) way to take care of the mountain of laundry my family accumulates each week.
Have you ever walked down to the basement, saw piles of laundry in the corner of your eye, felt a pit in your stomach at how behind you are then tried to forget about it so you didn’t have to feel overwhelmed anymore? This is a common story that working moms talk to me about; it’s their “nemesis”.
1) Washing Wednesday. After dinner, your hubby puts the kids to bed and does dishes while you get to work on the “washing” (aka laundry). With most machines, you should be able to get at least 3 loads washed, dried and folded by the end of the night. Make it fun for yourself. Put on some great music or your favourite TV show. You could even get out your novel and read between cycles! Be creative here so that you actually ENJOY when “Washing Wednesday” comes around!
We all have 24 hours in a day. We can either race around resenting everything we have to do or choose to find better ways and just go with the flow. We have the ability to design our lives. Design yours with this fun technique and you’ll be sure to live life more like you want,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
One of the things I did was come up with cute names for certain days and attach a job or activity to it. For example, I loved humour and it really bonded us as a class (The kids loved it when I would laugh so hard I’d cry) so I created a day called,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “Witty Wednesday”. Throughout the week the kids would bring in jokes they had either found or heard, wrote them down and placed the paper in our “Witty Wednesday” basket. On Wednesday, during the last 10 minutes of class we would sit on the carpet together and I would pull 5-7 jokes out of the basket. The child would read it and we’d either try to answer the joke or just listen to it. It was one thing the kids always said they loved best about our year together.

Feel free to make up your own and if you think they’re brilliant, please write me as I always LOVE to hear the ideas of others.
The point with all of this is that there is no way around doing laundry and other household tasks (unless you have a full time maid), so why resist? Do them in a fun way! Better yet, get the family in on the game! Just be sure to do these tasks in a fun and enjoyable way.
2) Tub and Toilet Tuesdays. Why not make Tuesday one of your children’s bath days (No, you don’t have to bathe your children every night. Just wash their hands and face and save the big clean ups for a few days during the week) While your kiddies are enjoying their play time in the bath, you could clean the toilet (and sink if you like). Then, after you’ve scrubbed the kids, get your hubby to get their pyjamas on while you clean the bathtub. You can swap these roles so he cleans the tub and you dress the kids,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whichever suits you.
When thinking about how I could solve my problem my thoughts wandered back to the classroom when I was a teacher,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I had systems and organizational routines put into place so that the classroom and our life inside it ran like a well-oiled machine.

One aspect of being an executive coach that I love is that I’m in a sense a leader’s leader. I hold the bigger picture for my executive clients to live into. I give them a bigger bandwidth within which to experience themselves, their organization and the role they intend to play. I empower them to make the leap and while in the leap experience the transition from who they thought they were to who they are becoming. This noticing of what it’s like to be in the leap – noticing the various muscles that are used to engage, maintain and complete the leap is also an aspect of the Bigger Picture that we don’t think about when we ask our direct reports to shift or change their context in order to also see and act from the Big Picture.

In the business environment, getting the Bigger Picture is what Alon is wanting of his new CFO,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Chantal; and it’s what she want from the manager, Marko, who she is hiring next week; and, it’s what Alon’s manager is wanting from him, too. Do these individuals have the capacity to see the Bigger Picture and then make leadership decisions that will support what is desired for all?
Peter’s corollary states that “in time, every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out their duties” and adds that “work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence.” “Managing upward” is the concept of a subordinate finding ways to subtly “manage” superiors in order to limit the damage that they end up doing.

The bigger the picture you can hold the more valuable you are to your company and organization
Seeing the Big Picture; what the heck does that mean? What requires one to see the big picture? And, what dilemma becomes apparent when considering the leap? “The Leap?” you might ask. Why would it take a leap?
With the Peter Principle in mind then, one perhaps rises to their ability to see the Bigger Picture and then be able to act with competence, fulfilling their duties. It takes commitment and a capacity to expand one’s reality. What are you willing to practice in service to seeing the Bigger Picture and perhaps meet your incompetence? Every great leader must face this exquisite and essential moment of reckoning. And, if they can learn from the experience they have a great capacity to empower others to do the same.
Until Chantal was hired as the CFO, it didn’t occur to her that she would need to operate differently from the way she had been working just months ago. Most of us take our Operating Procedure Manual(OPM) with us to the next level of leadership only to find that we are drained by juggling what we’ve been doing with the requirement of working as if you are holding the Bigger Picture; before you even know what that means. Chantal realized that in order to fulfill her roles as the CFO she’s got to let go of her limiting OPM and take the leap.
One distinction of a good leader is that they are willing to risk the scathing, the failures, and the vulnerability because they are able to see from a bigger picture that these potential risks serve the Bigger Picture. They are committed to this bigger picture enough. Without the ability to see the bigger picture they would not have the level of fearlessness required to make those hard choices.
If I’m a lifeguard, I’m less likely to see anyone in distress if I’m in the pool swimming around with the rest of the swimmers. I have to be up above the pool in order to get more of a bird’s eye view; this way I can see much more activity and take actions more quickly.
The dilemma, which will surely arise is that we are generally committed to maintaining the level of comfort and invulnerability within which we don’t feel threatened and are in jeopardy of losing respect or losing face. In order to let go of the trapeze bar of one level of functioning in order to swing to and grasp another, you have to be committed enough to let go of what no longer serves. Some of us aren’t willing to do this unless we know that there is a secure and well-placed safety net below that will catch us unscathed if we do fall.
I can’t tell you the number of times over that past few weeks that I’ve heard the term seeing the big picture. I pay attention when something is said two or more times; there’s something to be mined for myself and perhaps for others,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Everyone of us who aspires to something greater than our current fishbowl, our current job, position, role, or level of responsibility has to risk this moment of vulnerability and failure. What makes a good leader and someone who is more likely to get promoted over and over again is the willingness to jump out of the fishbowl, out of the pool, off the stage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in order to see the Bigger Picture from which to lead far more effectively.
If I’m a director of a play, I’d not be able to see the whole representation or gestalt of a scene if I were on stage directing amid the characters. Seated off stage in the audience or even in the balcony I can see the bigger picture of how the actors engage with each other, the lighting,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the set design, the sound quality: I can see things I wouldn’t be able to if I didn’t set myself apart to view get the Big Picture.
The Fishbowl Analogy:
Quite often we have moments of lucidity, where we get the big AH-HA! However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this moments of transcendence dissolve back into are reality that we call normal. Exercising the muscles of awareness through noticing, which constantly nudges one to stay awake and aware,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is required for most of us to truly shift our paradigm to include this next level of the Bigger Picture.
It’s challenging to pop out of your current fishbowl or context in order to see the Bigger Picture. Again, like a fish,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we don’t know that there is a reality outside the fishbowl within which we are immersed. We say “What Fishbowl? What Bigger Picture?” It’s not that we are ignorant, it’s that rarely is there a context that allows us to get that there is a Bigger Picture to see.
I’ll give you a number of analogies that might be helpful:
We are all immersed in a paradigm and reality,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], much like a fish in the water it swims in. A fish can’t distinguish itself from this water, just as most of us don’t distinguish ourselves from our thoughts, emotions and body sensations; just as most of us don’t distinguish ourselves from the work, roles and details we’ve been attending to, without considering the value of our contribution, the degree of fulfillment, toxicity or dysfunction we may contribute to,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the productivity gained from a business or financial perspective.
Rising to the level of incompetence
Like the woman on the flying trapeze, Chantal will have to let go of a known way of viewing the world. She’ll have to operate from a different and larger perspective,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which requires a letting go of the known for the unknown. She’ll be surrendering her invulnerability,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the survival mechanism she developed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that worked well enough to avoid vulnerability. Like all of us, Chantal wants to avoid that moment when she meets the “I don’t know how to make that leap without possibly falling on my face and looking like a complete fool and failure.”
Formulated by Dr. Laurence J. Peter and Raymond Hull, the Peter Principle states that “in a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence,” meaning that employees tend to be promoted until they reach a position at which they cannot work competently.

There are so many more elements that can be incorporated to create a Lifestyle of Romance. Make a list of those things that would make you feel like you're living a life of romance and then begin to implement them into your everyday life.

In an interview by "Biography" magazine (May 2001, page 97-99), the scientists made the following statements about the universal living memory theory.

Whatever one’s religious bent, I find it difficult to believe in a vengeful God who seeks to either reward or punish. If we are all God’s creatures, He accepts us as we are – just as we accept our children, naughty or nice.

Moreover, although I’ve wondered about this subject, I’m not in any particular hurry to find out the “real answer”!
Although most of what I’ve stated is conjecture, there does exist some empirical evidence to substantiate the theory of life after death –in particular, the near-death experience. There are many documented cases of people, despite being pronounced clinically dead, who report a continued consciousness or awareness of being. Each of these reports has much in common.
Giving additional weight to the theory that our spirits are still “alive” and living in another dimension,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there are reports of many psychics and mediums who profess to be a conduit for deceased loved ones to send messages to the living. One such person is Rosemary Altea. Ms. Altea, author of "Proud Spirit", states “People seem to think we need the spirits because it assures us there is more than this life, but they need us just as much. They want us to know they are there to pass on things that will prepare us for death. We’re very important to them.”
A difference in religious beliefs seems to be at the center of world discordance today, as it has always been throughout the ages. At the heart of the problem is man’s conviction that if he is right, another must be wrong. Acceptance that there is more than one way and more than one answer is THE ANSWER in all areas of life.
When asked what would this theory suggest about life—or the survival of consciousness—after death, they replied:
This brings us to the topic of reincarnation, where theories abound. Again, it is difficult for me to believe that this life is the only one an individual soul will experience. In comparison to eternity, the blink of an eye that one spends in a single lifetime is so minute and inconsequential. This leads me to the conclusion that there must be more to a soul’s existence than his/her time on Earth. From a more spiritual viewpoint, I have always intuitively felt a universal force (call it what you will) surrounding us all. And on this path, we must keep our senses open to the universe and accept that everything happens for a purpose. This allows one to realize that there are no coincidences. For example, when we encounter people whom we feel we’ve known forever, we most probably have – perhaps in another life or an alternative dimension.
Consider the thought that if a person has committed bad acts during a lifetime,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he/she simply gets to think about how he/she can do better next time – possibly in a subsequent lifetime.
At their inception, many religions created the concept of heaven vs hell. This was done, in part, to instill a “fear of God” in its followers, so they would lead a more righteous life in hope of a heavenly reward upon their demise. These religions would have us believe in an afterlife with a God who “punishes” those who do not lead a moral life. Other religions would have us believe nirvana in the afterlife is achieved by slaying one’s earthly enemies.
